Found Scheurebe, Germany, 2025
M&S, £9
A still white wine made exclusively for Marks & Spencer by winemaker Gerd Stepp in Germany’s Pfalz region, where it comes from limestone soils and is crafted from the often-overlooked Scheurebe grape – a Riesling cross known for aromatic precision. It’s 12% alcohol, rich and aromatic, with aromas of summer orchard blossom leading into crisp green apple and nectarine, plus notable texture and depth from lees contact (spent yeast cells). The wine overdelivers for its price at £9.00 (75cl), is suitable for vegans, and is best enjoyed chilled and within 3 years of purchase.

Bethany Gen 6 Old Vine Grenache, Australia, 2023
Co-op, £12.25
Red wine from South Australia (Barossa) made from gnarled old Grenache vines that produce grapes of intensity, power, and beauty. It has a nose of dark cherries and hibiscus flowers, with a palate featuring cherries and wild fruit characters, and is 14.5% alcohol in a 75cl bottle; the wine is suitable for vegans and is described as immediately seductive with a colour and nose redolent of dark cherries and hibiscus. The Gen 6 label is Bethany’s signature line (also used for their Gen 6 Shiraz and Gen 6 Shiraz-Cabernet), and while the 2021 Gen 6 Old Vine Grenache was noted for simple red berry fruit with jammy notes, candied violets, and plum, the 2023 vintage continues this old-vine style with dark cherry and floral character.
