Taste The Difference Zinfandel, USA, 2022
Sainsbury’s, from £9.25
Taste the Difference Zinfandel (USA, 2022) is a bold, fruit-forward red with ripe blackberry, boysenberry and plum flavours, complemented by baking spice, black pepper and vanilla oak. Full-bodied and moderately tannic, it balances bright acidity with warming alcohol, savoury leather, cedar and smoked-meat notes, finishing long and persistent.
Pair it with BBQ ribs, brisket, burgers with mature cheddar, pepperoni pizza, bolognese, arrabbiata, chilli con carne, spiced pork or lamb, and aged cheeses. Its weight makes it unsuitable for delicate fish, oysters and light salads.

Exceptional Old Bush Vine Chenin Blanc, South Africa, 2025
Asda, £7
Exceptional Old Bush Vine Chenin Blanc (South Africa, 2025) is a dry, medium- to full-bodied white with ripe peach, yellow apple, quince and citrus flavours, complemented by honey, floral notes, fynbos and wet-stone minerality. Concentrated and textural, it combines vibrant acidity with waxy phenolics and a long, saline finish.
Pair it with roast chicken, pork belly, creamy pasta, grilled fish, lobster, crab, mild curries, Cape Malay or Thai-spiced dishes, mushroom risotto, smoked fish and goat’s cheese or mature Gouda. Its intensity may overwhelm delicate oysters and plain steamed fish.

Exceptional Barbera d’Asti Superiore, Italy, 2022
Asda, £8
Exceptional Barbera d’Asti Superiore (Italy, 2022) is a deep-ruby, medium- to full-bodied Piedmontese red with vibrant acidity, soft tannins and ripe dark-cherry, blackberry and plum flavours. Violet, dried herbs and oak-derived vanilla, spice, cocoa and tobacco add complexity, leading to a long, mineral finish. Serve at 16–18°C.
Pair it with tagliatelle al ragù, lasagne, richly topped pizza, braised short ribs, pork shoulder, osso buco, wild-boar ragù, salumi, aged hard cheeses, mushroom risotto and chicken tikka masala. Its acidity cuts through rich sauces and fat, while its supple tannins remain versatile
